Summary of the 1st In Person Meeting of the Bridge Over Time Working Group.

1. Documentary films assumptions
General: The film is a documentary. It contains a collection of reproductions about a given artist, plus off-camera commentary or subtitles. The documentary covers representative art from the period 1990-2020. It is approximately 10 minutes long.
Films production – April 2026 – March 2027;
HU – documentary films’ topics:
art groups and exhibitions of the period under study.
PL – documentary films about artists:
Artur Tajber, b. 1953 (media consequences of conceptualism, artist-run institution Fort Sztuki Association);
Grzegorz Klaman, b. 1959 (critical art, art of the transformation period, artist-run institution Wyspa Gallery);
Marek Rogulski, b. 1967 (towards queer, artist-run institutions, art squot).
CZ - documentary films:
Kateřina Šedá (b. 1977, Brno) - the community and local identity, participatory projects, public intervention;
Adéla Jánská (b. 1981, Olomouc) - new painting after 2000, post-socialist melancholy, gender, new versions of the female identity;
Vladimír Havlík (b. 1959, Olomouc) - activism, criticism of nationalism and populism, IA and transformation of the art scene.

SK - documentary films’ topics:
accompanying art criticism, observing curators, art&culture magazines of the period under study.

2. Conference papers / articles – possible topics
a) PL – critical art, transformation, body politic, biopolitics, biopower, artist run
initiatives, artist run gallery, performance art, performativity

Agnieszka Kulazińska, “Evolution of Art Institutions: building the art market” - summary of content:
- Facing the art market
- Notion of independency
- Attempts to organize international event
Łukasz Guzek, “From Critical Art to Queer Art” – summary of content:
- two faces of transformation in critical art: a critique of power and a critique of capitalism;
- the performativity of art during the transformation period as a primary artistic medium;
- queer art as a synthesis of post-transformation art.
HU – postconceptualism,
CZ – institutional change
SK –
Art Timeline (4 lists: HU, PL, CZ, SK): a list of important artistic events reflecting the dynamics of art in the period 1990-2020.
Context Timeline (1 list: HU, PL, CZ, SK): a list of several key events reflecting the dynamics of socio-political change in the period 1990-2020.
The method for creating the Timeline lists is similar to the previous part of the project:
Art Timeline – each group prepares a list for their country and presents/publishes it as a separate material.
Context Timeline is prepared in working groups but presented/published as a single material (one list).
Event selections are individual, and the justification and arguments for their selection are included in the presentations/articles.3. Development of the research next steps
a) First step - list of keywords to be prepared by 11 May
The list of key terms will help us to structure the research and start to compare the situation in the V4 countries.
During the meeting in Bratislava, we discussed about:
Feminism, critical art, institutional critique, changes in the institutional mapping after transformation

b) Second step – short definition of the collected words to be presented during the online meeting on 29 th May.
c) Decision about including: glossary of terms.

Bridge Over Time. Part 2: After the Revolution
First meeting of the working group April 24, 2026, Medium Gallery (Bratislava, Hviezdoslavovo námestie 18)

The first meeting in person, so everyone presents their research interests related to art and especially the art of Central Europe.
Czech presentation by Štěpánka Bieleszová
- presentation about Czech research group (5–6 slides),
- about publications of Czech art after 1990 (3 slides),
- proposal for our research within the project (3 slides),
- proposal featuring 3 artists for the films (4-5 slides).
Hungarian presentation by Kata Balázs-Miklós

Presentation by the Slovak Research Group (Alexandra Tamasova and Miroslava Urbanová):
- Selected artists and artistic phenomena considered significant for Slovak art from the 1990s to approximately 2020 (until the COVID-19 pandemic).
- Three Slovak artists selected for a documentary film presentation.
Coffee break

2:00 pm
Working Group Forum  Topics:
- discussion about adopted research methodology,
- finding common points in the art history of the period under study,
- identifying main problems (topics) in each country,
- discussion and making a decision about the structure of the documentary films.

4:00 pm
Open meeting to the public with a presentation of documentary films about art from the
period under study (1990s-2020).
- Presentation of the publication Bridge Ove Time. Part 2, its assumptions, content and structure of chapters (Łukasz Guzek and Agnieszka Kulazińska) and discussion.
- Documentary films about Polish artist: Marek “Rogulus” Rogulski, Artur Tajber,
Grzegorz Klaman.
